The day marked a historic milestone — a moment where the aspirations of young minds converged with the institute’s vision of nurturing competent, compassionate, and ethical medical professionals.
Extending a warm welcome to the newly inducted students, Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDIME, delivered an inspiring inaugural address. Describing SMVDIME as “a temple of learning, healing, and service,” Dr. Sharma emphasized that the institute was founded on faith, compassion, and a commitment to excellence in medical education and patient care.
Highlighting India’s timeless heritage of healing through Ayurveda, Yoga, and Siddha, he encouraged students to embrace the nation’s holistic healthcare ethos and align themselves with the national vision of “One Nation, One Health.” Dr. Sharma also provided a comprehensive overview of SMVDIME’s academic ecosystem nurtured under the aegis of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra, which includes a state-of-the-art Skill and Simulation Laboratory, an advanced Central Library, and a close academic linkage with the NABH-accredited Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH). He reaffirmed the institute’s unwavering commitment to patient-centered care, innovation, and academic excellence.
Emphasizing the values of discipline, integrity, and professionalism, Dr. Sharma outlined expectations regarding conduct, punctuality, uniform adherence, and regular attendance. He also introduced the Mentor–Mentee Programme, designed to provide continuous academic and personal guidance, underscoring that at SMVDIME, “discipline is the foundation of medical education and professional life.” The session also included introductions of distinguished faculty members and self-introductions by the new entrants, symbolizing their formal induction into the noble fraternity of medicine.
A major highlight of the event was an enlightening interactive session by Padma Bhushan Dr. K. K. Talwar, Hon’ble Member, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra. His discourse resonated as a masterclass in medical philosophy, inspiring the students to pursue their careers with empathy, ethics, and excellence. Dr. Talwar reminded the budding doctors that while science empowers a physician with precision, it is empathy that lends the healing touch. Urging them to uphold ethics as the moral compass of their professional journey, he emphasized that true medicine is “an art born of compassion and integrity.”
Encouraging the students to embrace innovation as the pulse of progress, Dr. Talwar motivated them to blend curiosity with conscience and vision with values. His words, rich in wisdom and sincerity, deeply resonated with the audience — leaving the young aspirants both inspired and introspective, marking a fitting prelude to their journey into the art and science of healing.
