BLS Training Conducted for First Batch of MBBS Students at SMVDIME

The first batch of MBBS students at SMVDIME successfully completed Basic Life Support (BLS) training as part of their Foundation Course at the Skill & Simulation Lab today as on 8th November, 2025.

The session began with an informative lecture delivered by Dr. Vanilla Chopra, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Anaesthesia, who is an AHA-trained BLS Instructor. The hands-on training was expertly coordinated by the Skill Lab Committee, which includes Dr. Shalini Sobti (In-charge, Skill & Simulation Lab), Dr. Jaspinder Pratap Singh, Dr. Anuj Kapoor, Dr. Mohita Singh, and Dr. Vikram Sharma. These instructors guided the students through various life-saving techniques

Through this program, students gained valuable knowledge and practical experience in the importance of Basic Life Support for managing medical emergencies—a crucial skill that enhances their readiness as future healthcare professionals committed to saving lives with competence and compassion.

Upon successful completion of the training, the students received certificates and a BLS trainer batch from Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director of SMVDIME.

Yoga, Meditation & Stress-Management Session Held for MBBS Students

As part of the ongoing Foundation Course for MBBS students, a special session on Yoga, Meditation and Stress Management was conducted under the expert guidance of Shri Anil Sharma, an experienced yoga practitioner and wellness mentor on 7th November, 2025. The session focused on the theme “Yoga for Self and Society”, highlighting the importance of cultivating a healthy body, a balanced mind, and a positive professional outlook—key elements in the life of every future medical professional.

During the program, students participated in a range of structured activities including: • Foundational yoga postures to improve flexibility and physical well-being • Breathing practices (Pranayama) aimed at enhancing concentration and emotional stability • Guided meditation to reduce stress and improve mental clarity Shri Anil Sharma also interacted with the students, emphasizing how regular yoga practice not only enhances personal health but also supports compassionate and attentive patient care. He encouraged students to incorporate short, daily routines into their busy schedules to maintain resilience throughout their academic journey. Review Meeting Held at SMVDIME to Assess Progress and Future Plans

A comprehensive review meeting was convened at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) on 4th November, 2025 to evaluate the current functioning of the institute and deliberate on key initiatives planned under its upcoming expansion phase.

The meeting was chaired by Shri Sachin Kumar Vaishya, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), and attended by Shri Alok Kumar Maurya, IFS, Additional CEO, SMVDSB; Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDIME & Associated Hospital; and Mr. Randeep Singh Bhau, Administrative Officer, SMVDIME.

The leadership team conducted a detailed review of several critical aspects, including: • The present functioning and performance of the medical college.
• Preparations for Phase II, including the establishment of additional academic and clinical departments.
• Procurement and installation of advanced medical equipment for Phase II facilities.
• Introduction of high-end 3D dissection tables to enhance anatomy teaching and learning.
• Implementation progress of the Learning Management System (LMS) to support digital learning and academic management. During the visit, the officials also interacted with students, reiterating that student welfare, academic growth, and overall well-being remain the highest priorities for the institution.

The corridors of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Kakryal, echoed with excitement and promise as the institute hosted the Introductory Session of the Phase I Foundation Course for its first batch of MBBS 2025–26 at Lecture Theatre–2, Academic Block on 3rd November, 2025. Shri S.S. Baloria, Retired Chief Secretary and the former Hon’ble Member of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), undertook a comprehensive visit to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Kakryal, on July 18, 2025. Deeply impressed by the infrastructure and quality standards maintained at the institution, Shri Baloria commended the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor and Chairman SMVDSB, Shri Manoj Sinha, for conceptualizing such a premier healthcare and academic centre in the region.

MBBS and Nursing Students from GMC Rajouri Attend BLS/ACLS Workshop at SMVDIME, Kakryal:

A comprehensive workshop on Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) was successfully conducted on 26th July 2025 at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Kakryal. The training was delivered by AHA-certified trainers from SMVDIME and its associated hospital, under the able guidance of Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDIME.

Dr. Sharma in his welcome address, emphasized the critical importance of timely life-saving interventions and the need for continuous professional development to ensure medical practitioners remain current and competent in their field.

Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, Principal, Government Medical College (GMC), Rajouri, also addressed the participants and highlighted the necessity of regular hands-on training and strict adherence to the latest resuscitation protocols.

Lt. Governor Shri Manoj Sinha Visits Injured Pilgrims at SMVDNSH, Kakryal, after Vaishno Devi Landslide:

Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) Katra, Shri Manoj Sinha, visited the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH), Kakryal on 27th August, 2025 to inquire personally into the health and well-being of pilgrims injured in the catastrophic landslide on 26th August, 2025 along the Vaishno Devi yatra track.

Accompanied by the Principal Secretary Mr. M.K. Bhandari (IAS), the CEO of SMVDSB Sh. Sachin Kumar Vaishya (IAS), District Commissioner Reasi Ms. Nidhi Malik (IAS) and the Executive Director of SMVDIME Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Shri Sinha met with injured pilgrims, reviewed their medical status and assured them of all possible care and support.

Dr. Yashpal Sharma briefed about a comprehensive review of the medical status, care progress, and recovery outlook of the pilgrims injured in the tragic landslide. In his address, Lt. Governor Sinha directed that the best possible medical facilities and assistance be made available to all those affected by the tragic landslide, and reaffirmed the Shrine Board’s commitment to pilgrim welfare. He further reiterated about the prompt arrangements for 24x7 free accommodation, meals, transportation, and other assistance for attendants of the victims, ensuring their safe return. World Anatomy Day 2025 Observed at SMVDIME

"In observance of World Anatomy Day 2025, the Department of Anatomy, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session under the aegis of Prof (Dr.)Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDIME, and Dr. Daisy Sahni, Professor & Head, Department of Anatomy on 15th October, 2025. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, nursing students, and healthcare professionals.

The CME was graced by several eminent guests including Dr. Elias Sharma (Professor & Head, Department of Urology, GMC Jammu, and Nodal Officer, SOTTO J&K), Dr. Poonam Mahajan (Joint Director, SOTTO), Dr. Abdul Majeed (Nephrologist), and Dr. Irfan Lone (Transplant Coordinator, SOTTO J&K).

In his address, Dr. Elias Sharma highlighted the vital role of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) in strengthening the organ donation and transplantation ecosystem. He emphasized that a single body or organ donation has the potential to save up to eight lives by enabling multiple organ and tissue transplants.

Dr. Irfan Lone provided a practical demonstration on how individuals can register their organ donation pledges through the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) portal, encouraging participants to visit notto.abdm.gov.in and complete their pledge for organ or tissue donation

Speaking on kidney transplantation, Dr. Abdul Majeed described the procedure as a profound “gift of life”—one that not only restores health to patients but also brings immense hope and relief to their families.

In his address, Dr. Yashpal Sharma eloquently spoke on “Deh Daan Mahadaan”—the donation of one’s body as the supreme act of giving. He stated that such a noble act allows an individual to live on beyond one’s lifetime, achieving a form of immortality through selfless service to humanity.

As part of the day’s observance, the Department of Anatomy conducted a Tree Plantation Drive as a tribute to all cadavers—planting one tree for every cadaver used in teaching medical students. "A CME titled “Overview of Undergraduate Curriculum Based Medical Education (UG-CBME) Curriculum” was organised at Academic Block of SMVDIME, Kakryal on 6th March, 2025. The event included trained deliberations from Dr. Sabita Yograj, Professor & Head, Department of Physiology, Dr. Shalini Sobti, Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine and Dr. Ajay Kumar, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmacology. The programme covered three key sections namely :1.An introduction to the CBME curriculum, highlighting the principles and structure of competency-based learning; 2.The goals of CBME, focusing on developing students' practical skills and competence in medical education; 3.The assessment component, designed to evaluate students' mastery of these skills through objective and practical evaluations. The event was attended by all the faculty members including Executive Director, Medical Superintendent and Senior Residents from SMVDIME & Associated Hospital.

Screening & Treatment of Cervical Cancer

A CME programme on the topic “Screening & Treatment of Cervical Cancer” was organised at Academic Block of SMVDIME, Kakryal on 23.01.25. The event included expert lectures from Dr. Geetu Mahajan, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Dr. Pratibha, Senior Resident, Department of Radiation Oncology, SMVDIME Kakryal. A detailed, informative, practical & engaging deliberation about current advancements in detecting/diagnosing, preventing & curing of cervical cancer was shared among all. The audience was apprised about the early preventive role of HPV vaccine along with available highly specific & sensitive screening tools like Pap smear & HPV DNA testing against cervical malignancies. Department of Pharmacology, SMVDIME Kakryal celebrates their first academic event on account of celebration of 4th National Pharmacovigilance week on 24th September, 2024 aimed at raising community level awareness-cum-sensitization on building ADR reporting culture for patient safety. The event was coordinated by Academic Committee, SMVDIME Kakryal in unison with SMVDNSH (Associated Hospital). World Polio day was celebrated at CHC Katra , organised by SMVDIME kakyral today. The theme of this year’s Polio day is ‘Let’s #End Polio’ . The event included lectures from faculty Dr. Kanishtha Sharma , Associate Professor Department of Microbiology and Dr. Nikhil Gupta , Assistant Professor, Department of Paediatrics SMVDIME, kakryal. Awareness programme regarding the importance of polio prevention, early detection and strategies for eradication & emphasis on polio vaccination was created among the doctors and healthcare workers. World Obesity day was celebrated at SMVDIME kakyral today. Obesity Day tries to raise awareness about this medical condition. The theme for this year's campaign is "Let's Talk About Obesity And..." this theme emphasizes to encourage people to start conversations that address obesity from a cross-cutting perspective. The idea is to look at health, youth, and the world as a whole in order to find ways to combat obesity together. The event included lecture from Dr. Roopali Sharma, senior dietitian, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics SMVDNSH , Kakryal. The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries Dr. Yashpal Sharma, executive director SMVDIME, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Runyal, Medical superintendent, Mr. MM Mathavan, facility director.
